Fleming College’s President has issued a statement in the wake of a COVID-19 outbreak at Severn Court Student Residence that’s resulted in 34 cases of COVID-19.
Maureen Adamson says students proven to have been involved in gatherings that resulted in the outbreak will face the harshest possible sanctions allowed under the Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
Adamson continues to say this could include penalties up to and including suspension or expulsion. Fleming says it’s assisting Peterborough Public Health with the investigation. Peterborough Police says they’re also assisting with the investigation. Her complete letter to staff and students can be found here.
She says the school will continue to support students who are innocent victims of the actions of others moving forward. Fleming has suspended classes at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough for 14 days starting this past Monday, however Adamson notes that there hasn’t been a case of transmission at any of their campuses because of guidelines that have been in place since last year.
Severn Court Student Residence is privately owned and currently houses about 200 students, according to Medical Officer of Health Dr. Rosana Salvaterra.
