Peterborough Public Health has given an update to an outbreak at Severn Court Student Residence.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Rosana Salvaterra says there’s now 34 positive cases at the residence.
The five Trent students that have tested positive in connection to the outbreak and believed to have been visiting the residence when the outbreak started, and have been ordered to self-isolate at their homes.
Salvaterra adds there is a number of arrangements in place to provide some students things they need while being ordered to stay in their rooms to stop the spread of COVID-19.
‘Group B’ has been identified as other residents who live in Severn Court, and the order requires them to self-isolate and only leave their rooms for food and medication. They’ll be tested by paramedics as well.
As far as charges, she says an investigation is still ongoing as they look for consistency in stories from students as far as the origin of the outbreak, but Salvaterra hasn’t ruled any charges out. She also says there’s a chance it was more than one gathering that’s led to the outbreak.
There’s currently about 200 students living at Fleming’s Severn Court residence.
