Paralympic gold medalist Jon Thurston was honoured at the Peterborough Curling Club after his undefeated status at the 2026 Paralympic winter games.
Thurston went undefeated with 11 wins to zero losses. This is after achieving a bronze at the 2022 Beijing winter games and earning three silver and one bronze medal from the World Wheelchair Championship for the last five years.
Thurston says Curling wasn’t the first sport he started to play but it was the one that stuck with him the most.
In honour of Thurston’s achievements the Peterborough Curling Club organized speeches from the club president David Calvert, Thurston’s Mother Marilyn Thurston, his coach Carl Rennick and himself.
An important lesson Thurston talked about both in his speech and to guests of the celebration is to follow what you’re passionate about and pursue it despite any barriers, physical or otherwise.
After the speeches finished Thurston answered some questions on stage, posed for photos with fans, wrote autographs, and had one-on-one meet and greets with his fans.
Thurston looks forward to the next paralympic games and looks to continue practicing and improving his skills to maintain the undefeated status of the 2026 paralympic winter games because of his love of sports.
