The Township of Asphodel-Norwood is set to receive more than $1.1 million in provincial funding to upgrade its water infrastructure, as part of a broader investment aimed at supporting growth and long-term planning in rural communities.
The funding, announced by Northumberland–Peterborough South MPP David Piccini and Ontario’s acting infrastructure minister Todd McCarthy, will see Asphodel-Norwood receive $1,111,342 through the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream.
The township plans to use the funding for rehabilitation work along Highway 7, including upgrades to water services and watermains.
Mayor Patrick Wilford said the investment will help advance critical infrastructure improvements while minimizing impacts on residents and local businesses.
Provincial officials say the funding is part of a larger $17.2-million announcement supporting multiple municipalities across the region, including projects in Cramahe, Trent Hills and Port Hope.
Piccini said investments in modern and reliable water systems are key to supporting housing development, job creation and long-term stability in smaller municipalities.
The funding is part of Ontario’s broader $4-billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, designed to support essential infrastructure such as water systems, transit and housing-enabling projects.
Officials say the upgrades in Asphodel-Norwood will help ensure safe drinking water while positioning the community for future growth.
