The City of Peterborough is celebrating National Tourism Week from April 20 to 24, recognizing the role tourism plays in the local economy and community.
Officials say Peterborough welcomes more than three million visitors annually, generating about $277 million in visitor spending. The tourism sector includes more than 400 businesses and supports over 3,000 jobs in the region.
The City says tourism continues to grow through festivals, sporting events, media coverage, and local attractions that draw visitors to the area.
Recent highlights include increased national media exposure, including coverage from CP24 Breakfast, as well as recognition for local events such as the Peterborough Folk Festival, Peterborough Musicfest, and the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour, which received awards from Festivals and Events Ontario.
Peterborough is also hosting the TELUS Cup during the same week, a national hockey championship expected to bring athletes, families, and fans to the city and support local businesses.
City officials are encouraging residents and visitors to explore local attractions and support tourism businesses. More information is available at ptbotourism.ca.
