Community leaders in Peterborough are remembering John McNutt as a dedicated mentor, advocate and quiet force behind many local initiatives following news of his passing.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of McNutt’s death, describing him as a valued friend whose kindness, dedication and quiet strength left a lasting impression.
“Throughout his life, John demonstrated a genuine commitment to the people around him,” Smith said. “He exemplified the very best of what it means to serve others with integrity and compassion.”
Mayor Jeff Leal also reflected on McNutt’s impact, particularly through his work mentoring youth and supporting inclusive initiatives.
“John inspired students to think outside of the box and reach for the stars in the business world,” Leal said. “His work for Junior Achievement, coupled with his advocacy for persons with disabilities, will have a lasting impact.”
Former Innovation Cluster CEO Michael Skinner said McNutt played a significant role in both the local entrepreneurial community and civic life, often working behind the scenes to support others.
“He had a way of bringing clarity to multifaceted situations and always made time to support those building something new,” Skinner said, adding that McNutt’s influence extended far beyond what many people saw.
Tributes have highlighted McNutt’s commitment to inclusion, mentorship and community service, with leaders noting his legacy will continue to shape Peterborough’s business and civic landscape.
Condolences have been extended to McNutt’s family, friends and the broader community as they remember his life and contributions.
