The Ontario government is expanding the list of organizations that can nominate veterans for the Ontario Veterans Award for Community Service Excellence.
The award recognizes veterans who have made ongoing and meaningful contributions to their communities, including supporting other veterans as they transition to civilian life, assisting those living with physical or mental injuries, and taking part in broader community-building work. Under the updated program, eligible nominating organizations now extend beyond Ontario branches of The Royal Canadian Legion to include the Treble Victor Group, True Patriot Love Foundation, Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) and the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping.
To be eligible, nominees must be veterans who are honourably discharged former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, be Ontario residents, and be nominated by an authorized veterans’ organization.
Nominations must include the veteran’s name, their veterans’ organization, and a brief summary of their community service. Eligible organizations submit nominations through the Ontario Honours and Awards Portal.
The deadline for submissions is September 4, with more information available through Ontario.ca. All nominated veterans will receive the award, with certificates and lapel pins provided to nominating organizations.
