The president of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 351 at Fleming College is raising concerns after staff were given only minutes’ notice ahead of the school’s integration announcement with St. Lawrence College.
In a statement, the union said it received email notification just four minutes before an all-staff message was distributed, while details of the plan were also appearing publicly. Officials say the timing, combined with what they describe as a lack of transparency from senior administration and the board of governors, has added to concerns about how the process is being handled.
Union representatives say they had previously raised questions about a potential merger months ago, but believe they were excluded from meaningful discussions about the future of the institution. They also pointed to broader pressures across Ontario’s college system, including program cuts and job losses, which they attribute to underfunding and administrative decisions.
The union says it is reviewing its options and is seeking clear assurances that collective agreements will be respected and that workers will have a role in future discussions.
