A long-standing childcare provider in Peterborough is working to secure a new location after receiving an unexpected eviction notice from its landlord, Northview Community Church.
In a letter to parents and guardians, the organization said it was informed it must vacate the premises by July 31, ending a tenancy that has lasted more than 40 years. The notice came while lease negotiations were still underway, despite a request for up to two years to transition to a new space.
The childcare provider said it is now working with city officials to identify a temporary location and is in discussions regarding a potential permanent site within Peterborough. Staff indicated the new location could better serve families and children, though a temporary move may be required in the interim.
Officials acknowledged the disruption for families and said efforts are focused on ensuring a smooth transition in the months ahead while keeping parents informed of developments.
Monaghan Ward Councillor Matt Crowley issued a statement to PTBOTODAY.ca on the matter:
“There aren’t enough specifics at the moment, however, city staff are actively working on alternative locations for Northview”
