If it seems like buses have been cancelled a lot this school year, that’s because they were.
According to the latest data by Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario, Monday marked the 11th time buses were called off in Peterborough city and county due to unsafe road and weather conditions. That total is the second highest in the last eight years, just behind 2024-25 which featured the devastating ice storm in our region.
Historically, Peterborough has seen fluctuating totals, with nine cancellations in 2018-19, dropping to just two in 2020-21, before climbing again in recent years. The 2022-23 school year recorded eight weather-related cancellations, followed by five in 2023-24.
Meantime, a new high has been reached in Northumberland, with Monday being the 15th day buses were cancelled.
