Officers with the Peterborough Police Service issued three stunt driving charges over the holiday weekend following a series of high-speed incidents on Water Street.
The first incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 5th, when officers recorded a vehicle travelling 99 km/h in a 50 km/h zone near Water Street and Marina Boulevard. An 18-year-old Peterborough man was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with stunt driving and speeding. His licence was suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
The second incident took place at about 3:45 p.m. on Monday, April 6th, when officers observed a vehicle travelling 91 km/h in the same 50 km/h zone. A 21-year-old man from Carlisle, Ont. was charged with stunt driving and speeding. His licence was also suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
In a third incident later that day at approximately 5:10 p.m., officers recorded a vehicle travelling 94 km/h in the 50 km/h zone. A 30-year-old man from Lakefield was charged with stunt driving, speeding, and failing to surrender his licence. He also received a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound.
Police say all three incidents occurred in the area of Water Street and Marina Boulevard and continue to emphasize the dangers of excessive speed in urban areas.
