The Township of North Kawartha and the Municipality of Trent Lakes are restarting their well water sampling program next week, helping residents check for bacterial contamination following the spring melt.
Beginning Tuesday, April 7, 2026, residents can drop off samples at:
- North Kawartha Municipal Office, 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley, ON – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 to 10 a.m.
- Trent Lakes Municipal Office, 760 County Road 36, Trent Lakes, ON – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Samples are sent to the Public Health Ontario Lab in Peterborough for testing. Empty sample bottles are available anytime during regular municipal office hours.
Testing is recommended twice a year, in spring and fall, for total coliforms and E. coli. Young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk if contaminated water is consumed. Samples must be delivered within 24 hours of collection, and instructions included with each kit should be followed carefully.
