A milestone year is taking shape on the water as one of Peterborough’s most recognizable events gears up for another run at Little Lake.
Registration is now open for the 25th Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, set for June 13, with organizers aiming higher than ever before. This year’s fundraising target sits at $325,018.01, with all proceeds continuing to support cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Festival chair Michelle Thornton says the event is closing in on a major financial milestone, with nearly $5 million raised since it began. That mark is expected to be surpassed this year.
She says recent years have helped build that momentum.
While the cause remains at the heart of the festival, organizers are also focused on creating an experience that keeps teams and spectators coming back.
Thornton says making the day enjoyable for everyone involved continues to be a priority.
Attention is now turning to getting teams signed up, as planning continues behind the scenes to bring the event together.
Thornton says preparations are already well underway.
The Dragon Boat Festival remains the largest one-day fundraising event in Peterborough each year.
Oldies 96.7, Freq 90.5 and PTBOToday are returning as media sponsors.
Teams can register, or donations can be made, through the festival’s website.
