A number of Peterborough musicians and their fans are coming together in support of a beloved and longtime local performer.
According to musician and event co-organizer Paul Clark, Rick Young – one-half of the popular duo Rick and Gailie – has been dealing with serious medical issues and, as a result, hasn’t been able to take to the stage since mid-January.
On March 30th at the Black Horse in downtown Peterborough, a ‘get well’ video will be shot, the centre piece of which will be the singing of a re-worded version of the Beatles’ Penny Lane written by Mike MacCurdy. Clark says all are invited to show up at 7 p.m. to be part of the chorus and help send a clear message to Young.
Clark says the show of support speaks not only to the closeness of the Peterborough music community but also the healing power of music.
Clark adds when there’s an opportunity to tell someone they’re missed and appreciated, it should be jumped on.
In addition, those on hand will be able to record personal messages to Young, which will be shared with him afterwards.
