The next step in Porter Martone’s hockey career is official.
The Philadelphia Flyers announced yesterday that the 19-year-old Peterborough native has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the team.
Drafted sixth overall in 2025, Martone is comes off a standout freshman season at Michigan State Spartans men’s ice hockey. He recorded 50 points in 35 games, leading the team in goals and total points. His 24 goals before the NCAA Tournament ranked third among all NCAA skaters, and his 1.42 points-per-game pace was the third-highest among all first-year college players. He also added three points in two NCAA Tournament games.
His strong performance also earned him some significant recognition. Martone was the only freshman named to the All-Big Ten First Team and also secured a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, capping a season that established him as one of college hockey’s top young players.
Martone, who was in Philadelphia last night for the Flyers’ 2-1 overtime win against the Dallas Stars, will join the team for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season and could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday night against Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
