Anyone considering a run in the 2026 municipal election can get a closer look at what the job involves at an upcoming information session.
The City of Peterborough is hosting its “So, You Want to Run for Council – Candidate 101” session Tuesday at 7 pm at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre.
The session will outline the roles and responsibilities of council members and is open to prospective candidates, along with spouses, partners, and anyone interested in how local government works. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions and connect with others.
The session will be led by Nigel Bellchamber, who has worked with elected officials and senior staff across Ontario since 2002, focusing on governance and leadership.
The 2026 municipal election is set for October 26. The nomination period runs from May 1 through August 21 at 2 pm.
More information, including how to register for the session, is available at peterboroughvotes.ca. Residents can also confirm they are on the voters list through the provincial registration system.
To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident, tenant, or property owner in the city. Students living in Peterborough while attending school can vote both locally and in their home municipality, and individuals without a fixed address are still eligible to vote.
The session is being hosted in partnership with several local municipalities across Peterborough County.
