As the Peterborough Petes prepare to open their OHL playoff run this Thursday night (March 26) at the Memorial Centre, there’s a discernable air of anticipation in the city.
That’s the word from Mayor Jeff Leal, an avid sports fan. He says “one of the great things about sports” is its ability to bring people of all stripes together.
Mayor Leal says the hockey club’s reputation beyond the city was brought home to him when he traveled the country as a former Liberal provincial minister.
Mayor Leal says the hockey involvement of former players has done much to keep the Petes front of mind on a bigger stage.
Mayor Leal says typically sold-out homes games are not only proof of fans’ loyalty but also indicative of a consistently strong on-ice product.
Asked his prediction for the Petes’ opening round series against North Bay, Mayor Leal says ‘We’re going to go very deep in the playoffs.”
