A traffic enforcement detail targeting Community Safety Zones across Peterborough led to dozens of charges being laid.
Members of the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit carried out the initiative on Monday, March 23, focusing on areas where public safety is a heightened concern, typically near schools. Fines for offences in these zones are higher than in non-designated areas.
In total, 73 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act. Of those, 69 were for speeding, with 62 occurring within designated Community Safety Zones.
Police say 37 per cent of those charged with speeding were travelling at least 25 km/h over the posted limit.
The Traffic Unit says similar enforcement details will continue throughout the year as part of efforts to improve road safety, reminding drivers to slow down.
