Peterborough County OPP are investigating two recent scams involving the sale of skid steer loaders.
In the first incident, a Selwyn Township resident reported selling a 2024 CFMoto Skid Steer Loader, model CFG KRW232, valued at over $14,000, online. The buyer, posing as a legitimate business, provided a fraudulent cheque and a black pickup truck picked up the skid steer on February 1, 2026. The purchaser could not be contacted afterward.
In a second, similar case, a business in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township reported a 2015 CAT 259D Compact Track Loader, valued at approximately $45,000, purchased via a cheque sent to the business. On February 25, 2026, a flatbed tow truck collected the skid steer for delivery to Scarborough. The cheque later bounced, and the buyer’s phone number was canceled.
Investigators are asking anyone with information that could identify the suspect(s) to contact the Peterborough County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The OPP remind residents to stay vigilant when selling items online:
