A major shift in how development is approved across the city is moving into public view.
A public meeting on the draft Community Planning Permit By-law is set for March 23 at 6 pm in council chambers at City Hall, with an option to watch online. The session will include a presentation outlining the proposed by-law, what’s been heard through community engagement so far, and what comes next.
No decisions will be made at the meeting. Instead, council’s general committee will collect feedback before a revised version of the by-law is released in late May. That updated draft will go through another round of public review ahead of final consideration expected in late June.
The proposed by-law would replace the city’s current zoning rules entirely, introducing a new framework to guide how land is used, developed, and redeveloped across Peterborough.
It’s designed to align with the city’s official plan, support future growth, and encourage the creation of more affordable housing. The by-law would also merge several existing approval processes into one and streamline how development applications are reviewed.
A separate online survey collecting public input on the draft by-law remains open until March 20, with more details available through the city’s online engagement platform.
