If you’re age 14 to 25 and have a dream of becoming an Olympic athlete, you want to be at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre on March 15th.
RBC Training Ground participants will undergo speed, strength, power and endurance testing in front of national sport organization representatives with the top 100 athletes from all Training Ground sessions advancing to the national final. From there, 35 athletes will receive funding and resources to further develop in their sport.
2026 Olympic gold medalist Piper Gilles and 2024 Olympian Duan Asemota will be at the Peterborough session. Meanwhile, Larissa Franklin, who won Olympic bronze at Tokyo 2020 as a member of Canada’s softball team, has been involved with the program for a few years.
While participants are tested on specific skills, Franklin says there are intangibles that also figure into any aspirations to become an Olympian.
Franklin says RBC Training Ground provides potential Olympians with a terrific opportunity that wasn’t available at a time not long ago.
