Registration is open for the 10th annual Peterborough Butterfly Run to raise awareness and funds in support of families and individuals who have experienced loss during pregnancy, the loss of a child or infertility.
Set for April 26th at Millennium Park, the event is again being presented by the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation in partnership with the Partners In Pregnancy Clinic.
There are several options for participants, with the 1K Kids Fun Run followed by the 1K Memorial Walk and the timed 5K Run/Walk. Registration for the Memorial Walk is free, but there is a registration fee for the Kids Fun Run and the 5K Run/Walk. Visit https://peterboroughbutterflyrun.itsyourrace.com/register/ to register.
Foundation executive director Vince Bierworth says this year’s event theme is gratitude.
Bierworth notes a portion of the funds raised since 2018 have seen close to a thousand bereavement kits created for both families and individuals, and distributed by heath care providers.
Bierworth says while the event can be, and often is, emotional for participants, there’s a celebratory tone that has hope and support at its centre.
In addition to funding bereavement kits, the run supports Hospice Peterborough bereavement retreats and care packages for those who have experienced loss.
