Countless local organizations rely on volunteers to do their good work, with many of those helpers retired and, with more time on their hands, looking to give back while pursuing their particular passion.
For more than three years, Rhonda Dobranic has volunteered with the Peterborough Humane Society and, as such, has happily rolled up her sleeves to help with a variety of tasks. As a recent retiree and an animal lover, her motivation for volunteering with the society is rooted in her desire to make a difference for the animals in the society’s charge.
Dobranic says volunteer opportunities at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre appeal to those want to work with animals, people or, in many cases, both.
One role that Dobranic has taken on, and really enjoys, is being a cat socializer.
She says volunteering in an environment alongside like-minded animal lovers is invigorating, and is a point of pride for her personally.
Dobranic adds her plan is to volunteer with the society as long as she can, joking “They need to install a cot for me so I’d be there even more.”
