The ‘Push Up Challenge’ is returning to Peterborough and surrounding communities this February, encouraging residents to get active while raising awareness and funds for mental health supports.
The free, nationwide event runs from February 5th to 27th and challenges participants to complete 2,000 push ups over 23 days. Participants can also substitute other forms of physical activity, making the challenge accessible to all fitness levels.
CMHA HKPR’s Jack Veitch says the event highlights the close connection between physical activity and mental wellness.
Veitch says flexibility is a key part of the challenge, allowing people to tailor activities to what works best for them – even shoveling snow can count!
Participants can also choose to fundraise by sharing their challenge with friends and family, who can pledge donations in support of their effort.
Veitch adds that even without fundraising or completing every push up, the challenge is still a success if it helps people start conversations about mental health.
The Push Up Challenge is free to join, with registration now open. Proceeds support the Canadian Mental Health Association and local mental health programs across the region.
