The Peterborough Habitat ReStore is reopening this weekend following an expansion that adds more retail space and increases its ability to support affordable housing in the community.
The grand reopening takes place Saturday, January 24, at the ReStore’s location at 300 Milroy Drive. The expansion adds more than 2,000 square feet to the store, creating dedicated space for housewares, décor and home essentials while freeing up room in the main store for furniture, kitchens and larger donations.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a huge increase in demand for thrifted housewares and glassware, alongside affordable furniture,” said Susan Zambonin, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region. “This expansion allows us to have the best of both worlds – more variety for shoppers, more space to accept donations, and ultimately, more support for local families in need of affordable homes.”
The grand reopening celebration will include cake, refreshments and a raffle, with prizes including a ReStore gift certificate valued at up to $200.
The expansion follows another recent milestone for Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region. Earlier this month, the organization welcomed its 100th homeowner family in Fraserville. Kayla, Jimmy and their three children moved into a safe, stable home made possible through donor support, volunteers and proceeds from ReStore sales.
Habitat ReStores also play a significant role in sustainability. In 2025, the stores diverted more than 300,000 items from landfill, giving furniture, décor and home goods a second life while supporting local housing initiatives. Through the Kitchen & Home Deconstruction Program, Habitat will also remove built-in items such as kitchens, windows and doors at no cost, providing donors with a tax receipt.
Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region operates two ReStores: the Peterborough location at 300 Milroy Drive and the Lindsay ReStore at 55 Angeline St. North. Both stores are open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. Donations are accepted during store hours, with free pickup available for larger items.
