Finding your way through Peterborough Regional Health Centre is about to get easier.
The hospital has officially launched MazeMap, a GPS-enabled digital wayfinding system designed to help patients and visitors navigate the sprawling 715,000-square-foot facility.
The system is accessible through a new touchscreen kiosk at the main entrance, along with four additional touchscreens installed in key locations throughout the hospital. Users can search for their destination, view a map with step-by-step directions, and optionally scan a code to transfer the route to a personal smartphone.
Using a personal device is not required, but visitors who choose to do so are encouraged to connect to the hospital’s “PRHC Guest” Wi-Fi network to allow the system to determine their floor location. Patients and visitors can also download the MazeMap app and search for Peterborough Regional Health Centre for added navigation support.
“PRHC is a large regional referral hospital, and we’ve heard feedback about how challenging it can be to navigate our hallways,” said Evan Lyons, vice-president of digital services, strategy and planning and chief information officer. “Our goal with the digital MazeMap system is to make your time at the hospital a little easier by putting better information right at your fingertips.”
Hospital officials say the new system is part of ongoing efforts to use technology to improve the overall patient and visitor experience.
