A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing multiple charges after police discovered paper licence plates on his vehicle during a traffic stop Saturday morning.
Peterborough Police Service Traffic Services officers pulled the vehicle over around 10:15 am on Saturday, near Romaine Park Streets, after the plates came back to a different vehicle registered in Mississauga.
Officers determined the plates were paper and had been taped inside a plastic sleeve, prompting further investigation.
The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with using plates not authorized for the vehicle, using plates not in accordance with the Act, and failing to apply for a permit after becoming the owner. He was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act for operating a vehicle without insurance.
The paper plates were seized, and the driver is scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
