The fire that claimed the life of a 27-year-old Peterborough man has been determined – not suspicious.
Peterborough Police put out the update on Thursday morning and officials say the scene has been turned over to the Ontario Fire Marshal.
The blaze happened on Wednesday in the area of McDonnel Street and Park Street North. Two other people in the home were taken to PRHC for treatment as well.
The victim involved has been identified by a GoFundMe page as Matthew French. Friends and coworkers are trying to raise money to help his family deal with funeral expenses. So far, more than $3400 has been raised.
In a post, organizer Maddie Micks says “the world lost a gentle soul who hadn’t quite gotten a fair shake. It hurt me deeply. It hurt my team. It hurt everybody whose lives that he had touched in our short time together.”
