The Peterborough Petes have acquired forward Brett Hammond and defenceman Garrett Frazer from the Erie Otters in a trade announced Wednesday by GM Michael Oke. In exchange, the Otters received defenceman Blake Gowan and three future draft picks.
Hammond, 17, from Ottawa, was the first overall pick in the 2023 U18 Priority Selection by Erie. He has 17 goals and 14 assists in 149 games over three seasons and has scored 10 goals in 27 games this season while wearing an “A” for the Otters. Oke described Hammond as a “big forward who plays a gritty, two-way game” with strong skating and forechecking.
Frazer, 17, from Haymarket, Virginia, was signed by Erie as a free agent in 2025 after stints in the BCHL, USHL, and NAHL. The 6’0”, 188-pound defenceman has 3 goals and 14 assists in 71 games and also served as an alternate captain this season. Oke called him a “solid right-handed defenceman who is tough to play against.”
Heading to Erie is 15-year-old Kingston native Blake Gowan, who scored once with 16 assists in 75 games with the Petes. Oke thanked Gowan for his contributions and wished him well in his career.
The Petes return to action tonight when they host the Oshawa Generals at the PMC. You can listen to Peterborough Kia Petes Hockey on Freq 90.5 with coverage beginning just before 7pm.
