Peterborough Petes goaltender Easton Rye has been named the Ontario Hockey League’s Mary Brown’s Chicken Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season.
The OHL announced the honour on January 5 after Rye went 3-0 in three starts, posting a 1.33 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage. He also recorded his first career OHL shutout and made 102 saves during the week.
Rye earned the shutout with a 25-save performance in a 2-0 win over the Oshawa Generals on December 28. He followed that up by stopping 36 of 37 shots in a 3-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs on New Year’s Day, before making 41 saves in a 5-3 road win over the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Peterborough native is 20-8-1-1 this season with a 2.86 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage through 30 games. His 922 saves rank third among all OHL goaltenders.
Rye was selected by the Petes in the fifth round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection and owns a career record of 31-26-3-2 over 68 games.
