The Peterborough Petes enter 2026 with optimism and a plan to build on the improvements seen in the first half of the season.
After an 18-point jump from this time last year, the club’s management believes the roster is positioned for growth, both now and in the future.
Mike Oke, the team’s general manager and VP of operations, credits careful planning and development over the past 18 months for putting the Petes in this spot.
Part of that success has come from the club’s European imports, including Adam Novotný , Leon Kolarik, and Yanis Lutz. Oke says bringing these players to Peterborough has helped elevate the team and provide young talent with valuable experience.
As the January 9th OHL trade deadline approaches, Oke confirms the Petes remain active in conversations but haven’t found the right fit yet. The goal is to make moves that benefit the team both immediately and for the seasons to come.
Looking at the second half of the season, Oke emphasizes that preparation and focus will be critical. The Eastern Conference is especially competitive, and every game requires the team to perform at its best.
Oke says that while the standings are tight, the team’s combination of youth and experience should allow them to make a strong push toward the playoffs and beyond. The focus is on continuing development while competing at a high level, setting the stage for a promising future in Peterborough.
With a mix of veteran leadership and developing talent, the Peterborough Petes are looking to build on first-half momentum as they aim to stay competitive down the stretch and give themselves a strong chance in the playoffs.
