The investigation into a firearm that was discharged inside a west-end Peterborough home remains ongoing.
The Peterborough Police Service Professional Standards Unit and senior investigators are handling the case and have retained an independent third party to examine the firearm involved.
Police say the incident, which took place on December 31st, is being investigated in the same manner as any matter where potential criminality may be involved. Investigators are also consulting with the Crown Attorney’s Office regarding the circumstances of the discharge.
In a statement, police said appropriate safeguards and external oversight are in place, and no conflict of interest was identified in completing the investigation internally, in accordance with provincial regulations under the Community Safety and Policing Act.
