A 62-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a snowmobile crash in Peterborough County.
Members of the Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews were called to Devil’s 4-Mile Road in the Havelock–Belmont–Methuen Township just before 4 p.m. on December 31st, following reports of a single motorized snow vehicle collision.
Police said two riders on separate snowmobiles were travelling east along the trail when one rider went off the trail and was injured. The lead rider, who had been conducting periodic shoulder checks, noticed the second rider was no longer visible upon reaching County Road 46 and returned along the trail, eventually locating the injured rider.
Emergency medical services were already at the scene when officers arrived. The injured rider, a woman from Etobicoke, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
OPP are reminding snowmobilers to check trail and weather conditions before heading out and to be aware that conditions can change quickly. Police also stress the importance of knowing one’s location in case emergency assistance is required.
