The Peterborough Police Service has released information about an incident involving the discharge of a firearm inside a west-end residence on New Year’s Eve.
Police say officers were called at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, to a home in the area of Ireland Drive and Ravenwood Drive. A firearm had discharged inside one residence, with the bullet travelling into and striking a neighbouring home.
No injuries were reported in either house.
Police say the firearm belonged to an off-duty member of the Peterborough Police Service and was legally owned. The weapon is not a service-issued firearm and was seized at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.
“This is understandably a very troubling incident, and the Peterborough Police Service is thankful that no one was injured,” Chief Stuart Betts said in a statement. “Any further details will be released when available.”
