We are just over a month away from the winter Olympics in Milano and Cortina, and there is a local name that’s hoping to hit the podium.
Cameron Spalding, who lives in Havelock, is a member of the Canadian Olympic snowboard team. The 20-year-old tells PTBOTODAY.ca his passion for the sport started early.
Spalding, who had World Cup victories in New Zealand, Switzerland in 2025, and a sixth-place finish at the World Championships, says representing Canada at the Olympics is going to be something he never forgets.
In terms of legacy, Canada has long had an elite snowboarding program and Spalding says he and his teammates want to continue that trend.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place on February 6th. According to the official schedule, Snowboarding ‘Big Air’ qualification will start on the 5th.
