The City of Peterborough closed several municipal facilities early Sunday as freezing rain moved into the region, prompting safety concerns.
City officials said facilities scheduled to be open on Sunday, closed at 4 p.m., including community arenas, the Peterborough Memorial Centre, the Sport and Wellness Centre, the Peterborough Museum and Archives, the Art Gallery of Peterborough, Riverview Park and Zoo, and the Peterborough Public Library.
On Monday, the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre and the Miskin Law Community Complex are set to reopen at 7 a.m. for scheduled uses. Both sites will also offer public spaces as warming centres and for device charging, if needed.
Community arenas, the Memorial Centre, Riverview Park and Zoo, and the museum and archives will remain closed Monday morning until conditions are assessed. Updated reopening times will be provided.
The public library is expected to open at 10 a.m., while City Hall and the art gallery will remain closed due to modified holiday schedules.
Public Works crews pre-treated roads Sunday and will continue overnight operations as conditions require.
