City public works crews are working to clear roads that have been blasted by Old Man Winter.
Motorists are being urged to travel with caution and to give snowplows plenty of space as crews begin clearing operations. Arterial and main roads will be prioritized during the storm, with plows moving to secondary and neighbourhood streets when conditions allow.
The city says snow clearing is carried out according to regulated maintenance standards and includes roads, bike lanes and sidewalks. Crews operate 16 plow routes covering 978 kilometres of roadway, along with nine sidewalk plows responsible for 450 kilometres of sidewalks. The city also maintains 39 kilometres of trails and clears snow at 650 bus stops.
Winter parking restrictions are currently in effect from Dec. 1 through April 1, with overnight parking prohibited on all city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Free overnight parking is available at all municipal parking lots, as well as the King Street Parkade and the Simcoe Parking Garage.
Vehicles parked overnight at either garage can obtain a gate arm ticket on entry, which can be used for a free transit trip home.
