It will be a silent night, and day too, at many City facilities during the holiday break.
Peterborough City Hall will close at noon December 24th and remain closed on Christmas Day through New Year’s Day, opening again January 2nd at 8:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the waste collection schedule will see a number of changes. December 25th collection for zones 5 and 6 moves to Saturday, December 27th; December 26th collection for zones 7 and 8 moves to Monday, December 29th; and January 1st collection for zones 5 and 6 moves to Saturday, January 3.
The City-County landfill on Bensfort Road will close at 11:45 a.m. December 24th and remain closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will again close December 31st at 11:45 a.m. and be closed New Year’s Day.
The Hazardous and Electronic Waste Depot will close at 1 p.m. December 24th and remain closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will again close December 31st at 1 p.m. and be closed on New Year’s Day.
City transit, meanwhile, will operate on a seasonal schedule from December 21st through January 3rd. Monday to Friday service during that period will be provided from 5:15 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.; Saturday service will operate from 5:45 a.m. to 12:30 am; and Sunday service will be provided from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
There will be no transit service on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with Boxing Day service following the regular Sunday hours. Transit service will end at 8:30 p.m. December 24th and 31st.
The social services office on Charlotte Street, and all city-operated child care centres, will close at noon on December 24th and won’t re-open on January 2nd.
Public works, meanwhile, can be reached at 705-745-1386 right through the holiday season. Calls will be answered 24 hours a day every day.
Peterborough Public Library branches will close at 1 p.m. on December 24th, and remain closed Christmas Day. It will close December 31st at 1 p.m. and be closed on New Year’s Day.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough on Crescent Street is closed December 24th to 26th, and again December 29th through New Year’s Day.
The Peterborough Museum and Archives closes December 24th at noon, and doesn’t re-open until December 27th. It will again close December 31st at noon and be closed on New Year’s Day.
The outdoor rink at Quaker Foods City Square is planned to be open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will close, however, at 3 p.m. December 24th and not re-open until Boxing Day.
And Riverview Park and Zoo is open 8:30 a.m. to dusk right through the holiday season.
