It’s Christmas Day – the gifts have been opened, and now you’re left with piles of boxes waiting to go out for recycling.
Constable Andrew Gamble says when you put those boxes out on collection day, it’s important to be mindful of what you may be showing passersby.
Gamble says this shouldn’t be a concern for families, but unfortunately, OPP do respond to several break-and-enters around this time of year.
Even if you cut up boxes or turn them inside out, there’s still another way criminals may assess whether your home is “worth the risk.”
That includes what you share online.
Gamble says once you post something on social media, it can travel far beyond your intended audience – so it may be best not to flood your feeds with photos and videos on Christmas Day.
If you see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, you’re encouraged to contact the OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
