Two drivers are facing impaired driving charges after Peterborough Police conducted a pair of Festive RIDE checks over the weekend.
More than 750 vehicles were stopped at several checkpoints across Peterborough and Lakefield on Friday and Saturday nights.
Police say the first arrest happened around 10:15 p.m. Friday, when officers stopped a vehicle on Lansdowne Street between River Road and Ashburnham Drive. A 39-year-old Peterborough man was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.
A small child was in the vehicle at the time, police said. The driver received an automatic 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. He was released on an appearance notice and is due in court January 13th.
The second arrest occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a RIDE check on Hunter Street between Sheridan Street and Burnham Street. A 41-year-old Peterborough woman was charged with impaired driving and failing to surrender a licence under the Highway Traffic Act.
She was also handed a 90-day licence suspension and seven-day impound. The woman was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 20, 2026.
Police say Festive RIDE checks will continue throughout the holiday season.
