Peterborough residents are being reminded that winter parking rules take effect on December 1st to support snow-clearing operations across the city.
From December 1st to April 1st, parking is prohibited on all city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Violators face a $35 fine.
The city says that during a snowstorm, when plows are actively clearing roads, parking is banned at all times on every street. The penalty increases to $80 and vehicles may be towed. Snow-clearing operations typically run between midnight and 8 a.m.
To support residents, free overnight parking is available at all municipal lots, including the King Street Parkade and Simcoe Parking Garage. Anyone using a parking garage during a snowstorm can take a gate-arm ticket upon entry and use it for a free transit trip home.
