Peterborough is pausing today to remember those who served in Canada’s armed forces.
The city and community are marking Remembrance Day with a ceremony at the Citizens’ War Memorial in Confederation Square, across from City Hall. The parade and service, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 52, begins at 10 a.m.
Residents are encouraged to join the ceremony to observe a moment of silence and pay tribute to Canada’s veterans. A moment of silence will also be held at 11 a.m. at city recreation facilities.
Many city services and facilities are closed or operating on holiday hours today. City Hall, Service Peterborough, Building Services, the Clerk’s Office, Provincial Offences Office, public libraries, and municipal child care centres are all closed. Some facilities, like the Peterborough Museum and Archives, are open from noon to 5 p.m., and recreation centres like the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre and Miskin Law Community Complex are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. with regular programs running.
Parking in city-operated garages, lots, and on-street spaces is free for the day. Transit is running on a regular schedule, though temporary detours may affect some routes during the parade between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Peterborough Regional Airport is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Riverview Park and Zoo is open from 8:30 a.m. to dusk. Waste and landfill services have adjusted schedules, with curbside collection moved to Monday, November 10 for zones 1 and 2.
Online services are available 24/7 at peterborough.ca, including fine payments, museum and library resources, and other municipal services.
Today is a day for reflection, gratitude, and remembrance, as Peterborough comes together to honour the sacrifices of Canada’s veterans.
