The City of Peterborough is marking Local Government Week from October 19 to 25, recognizing the important role municipalities play and the essential services they provide.
In partnership with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and other provincial organizations, the week promotes understanding of how local government operates and the many career opportunities it offers.
To celebrate, the City hosted local students for behind-the-scenes tours at City Hall, Riverview Park and Zoo, the Peterborough Memorial Centre, Peterborough Museum and Archives, and the Peterborough Regional Airport.
Mayor Jeff Leal said the goal was to give students a firsthand look at city operations and inspire future careers in public service, noting the tours highlighted “the diversity of municipal work” and how decisions made locally impact the community.
