Demolition work on Queen Street in Lakefield is ongoing following a recent structure fire, and the street will remain closed for roughly another week. Burnham Street, between Queen and Charlotte Streets, is also closed during the process.
Mayor Sherry Senis says the closures are necessary to ensure public safety and provide a secure workspace for crews. She encourages residents to continue supporting local businesses, which remain open despite the closures.
The Township and Peterborough County are promoting initiatives to support local shops, including a rescheduled Lakefield Scavenger Hunt, Lakefield Ladies Night, holiday programming, and an upcoming media campaign to showcase shopping and visiting in Lakefield.
Special arrangements are in place for garbage and recycling collection for businesses within the closure zone, and two streetlights removed during firefighting will be reinstalled after demolition concludes.
The Township thanked demolition crews, emergency responders, staff, and the community for supporting Lakefield’s recovery.
