Mayor Jeff Leal is calling on the Ontario government to continue allowing Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in school zones after the province indicated it will table legislation this month to ban them.
In a statement, Mayor Leal said he has written to Premier Ford requesting an exemption for school zones and joined other mayors across Ontario advocating for the same.
“Peterborough City Council’s priority is the safety of children,” Leal said. “We believe the implementation of ASE cameras will ensure the greatest safety level possible for our most vulnerable residents. Our children will always remain our top priority when it comes to safety.”
