Thousands of Trent University alumni, students and community members will come together this weekend for the annual Head of the Trent rowing regatta and related activities.
First held in 1971 when organized by Trent Rowing Club founder Chris Leach, the regatta has grown from 13 boats that initial year to welcoming more than 800 boats from universities and clubs from across North America.
Races on the Trent-Severn Waterway go all day Saturday and Sunday, with the full schedule and results as their known posted at www.regattacentral.com.
Regatta co-chair, rowing club president and Trent alumnus Neil Horne is again co-chairing the event. He says it has been all hands on deck in preparation.
Horne says a statement issued by Rowing Canada has added an extra layer to participants’ excitement.
Horne says smiles on the faces of rowers, volunteers and spectators, and reconnecting with old friends, brings him the most joy.
