Selwyn Township will overhaul its aging visitor information kiosks this summer after landing money from Regional Tourism Organization 8’s partnership fund.
The kiosks, first installed in 2002, once offered maps, business listings and community notice boards, but two decades of weather damage and outdated branding have left only one structure standing.
Under the project, delivered with Peterborough County Economic Development & Tourism, new kiosks will feature updated maps of the township and wider Kawarthas region, accessible designs, weather-resistant materials and panels highlighting local attractions, services and annual events.
“The revitalization of these kiosks is a strategic investment in Selwyn’s tourism infrastructure,” Mayor Sherry Senis said in a release. “This project not only supports wayfinding and local exploration for our visitors but also strengthens community pride and promotes local businesses.”
Brenda Wood, executive director of RTO8/Kawarthas Northumberland, said the replacements will help visitors “navigate the region and encourage them to explore farther, stay longer and spend more of their dollars in our communities.”
The township says the upgraded kiosks will enrich the visitor experience and boost Selwyn’s profile as a destination in the Kawarthas.
