For the first time in a long while, Peterborough has recorded a month with no deaths attributed to the ingestion of poisoned drugs.
According to Peterborough Public Health, May saw zero deaths resulting from tainted drug use, down from three deaths in April.
This continues a downward trend seen since February. To the end of May, 17 people have died this year died from poisoned drugs.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded to nine drug poisoning-related 9-1-1 calls in May – up from four in April – while 38 hospital emergency room visits related to a suspected drug poisoning were made during the month, up from 24 hospital visits in April.
