Peterborough Police are warning the public about a recent scam involving a person posing as a bank investigator.
The incident happened in late April when a resident received multiple phone calls from someone claiming to be from “Trans Union Investigative Service.” The caller said there was suspicious activity on the victim’s debit card and offered to send someone to pick it up for investigation.
After declining the offer twice, the resident agreed during a third call. However, when the individual showed up in person, the resident refused again, and no money was lost.
The suspect who came to the home was driving a large black SUV. He is described as a man with a medium build, mostly bald with a full dark beard and bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a blue dress shirt, grey dress pants with a belt, and brown dress shoes.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 705-876-1122 ext. 555 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or stopcrimehere.ca.
