As the redevelopment of Bonnerworth Park to accommodate pickleball courts and other amenities continues, the group that has fought the park’s makeover remains very much active.
That’s the word from Friends of Bonnerworth Park co-director John Gerelus who, at an update meeting back in December, pledged that the grassroots group isn’t going quietly into the night.
But now, with the park torn up, the group’s focus has changed, it now being on ensuring its development is done right and with the most benefit possible to the neighbourhood it serves.
Friends of Bonnerworth Park has met twice this year with senior city staff to review the plans for the park and provide input. A third meeting, which all of the park’s stakeholders will attend, is set for June 10th.
Gerelus says this new spirit of cooperation serves all parties well.
Gerelus says he’s hopeful these meetings will verify that his group wants to be “part of the solution” moving forward.
Gerelus reflects on the group’s determination to stay at it despite the park’s redevelopment going ahead.
